What is the low end of temperatue to operate an air compressor?
My air compressor is located outside the temperature is in the teens. What special precautions should I take.
Bill says... howdy.
No electro-mechanical device likes to start easily when it's below freezing. The air compressor is no different.
If yours is an oil lubricated model, then the oil will be very sluggish, and in fact, may impart additional load to the motor when it's starting. So much so, that you might pop a breaker.
At the very least, starting an ice cold compressor will lead to additional wear and tear, and reduce the life expectancy, unless it's been designed for use in below freezing conditions.
It were me, I'd move the compressor indoors into a warm area for a while before starting it.
Make sure you drain the tank after every use, while the air in the tank is still warm from the compressing process.
Cheers,
Bill
