What does short cycle mean?

Short cycle means that the compressor is turning on and off much more quickly than it would if it were turning on at the cut in pressure, and turning off at the cut out pressure.

Something is preventing your compressor to fill the tank from cut in to cut out, and I suspect if you are encountering that symptom, then you may have a pressure switch problem.
