What breaks or changes when a "Powerbuilt 5g/3h" gets dropped off the back of a pickup?

Clicks On, but pops cct breaker in 5-seconds..

Plastic shroud around the motor-fan area is all cracked off.. I'm supposing the thing took a hard tumble.. Fan is still ok, but has a tiny 16th-inch wobble, which I might be able to reset.. Shaft isn't bent.. pump turns easy.. pump sounds healthy.. was low on oil.. I hope that didn't harm the pump.. I'm guessing a bit of the electronics probably didn't survive the hard shock..? What breaks or changes when a "Powerbuilt 5g/3h" gets dropped off the back of a pickup?..

cap(s)

"You wrote "start caps".. Is there more than one..?"

I wrote "start/run caps"

Sometimes one, sometimes two. Depends on the motor.
One for start, and/or another for run.

And, absent a number, maybe you can send a picture or two of it?

Um..? "dropped"..?
by: DonaldJ

On second thought, it might very well have been "Tossed off the back of a pickup because it failed to work properly"..? What ever happened, it obviously took a nasty tumble...
I'll arbitrarily change the big cap as step-one, given that there isn't much else in this unit that could cause this particular fault but bad motor coils, and the motor works well, and high speed kicks in well, and it doesn't smell of "overheating coils"..

You wrote "start caps".. Is there more than one..?

The label says "3 horsepower/5 gallon", but there aren't any model numbers on any of the decals"..?
Maybe those numbers were on the broken/lost bits of the plastic of the fan cowl section..?

dropped?
by: Doug in s.d.ca

I see from another post you do not actually know it was dropped off a pickup...it might have been junked by someone with more money than time.

From your description, I'd start with checking the start/run caps. There's info on how to do that on this site, or, you could take it to a motor shop and have them do it...

Do you have a model number for it?
If it really is 3horse, it needs at least a 20 amp circuit at 120v or it needs to run on 220...

Thanks for your input here, Doug. As always... welcome. Have you seen the bottom of the home page recently?
