What are the rules regarding portable air compressors ?

by omar gamarra
(bell gardens , Ca.)

We have two old air compressors.

One is a 1986 sullair 100 cfm about 70 Hp + and the other is an ingersol rand 1980 100 cfm 67 HP unit.

They are both mounted on trucks. We do not know what the rules are or where to find them or what rule applies to them?

Hi Omar:

Sorry chum, but I don't know what rules regarding air compressors you are asking about?

Are you concerned about safety issues, or are you looking for maintenance / operating information?

If the latter, both Sullair and IR are still in the business of supplying portable air compressors, and contacting them would be my first choice to obtain manuals, instructions etc.

If it's safety, it's my opinion that as long as the pressure switches work, the PRV's (Pressure Relief Valves) work, and the air tanks aren't rusted through, then the safety concerns are essentially met.

Cheers,

Bill
