Is a filter needed?
by: Bill

Hi Paul... if I understand your question properly, you have two compressors, both are used regularly, and you want to know if an air compressor filter / water separator is needed?

The answer to that is covered in detail in the pages on this site about compressor generated water.

Essentially, the removal is water from an air system is predicated on how dry the air is needed at the end application.

If you are oiling the nailers with air tool oil at the end of each shift, and draining the tank regularly on the compressor, and you are not having any negative repercussions from water in the air lines, then I ask, why spend the money?

If, on the other hand, water dripping out of the muffler on your nailer is a problem, then yes, you want to get the water out.

A compressor filter / water separator is one of the ways. In line air dryers are another.

See the pages about compressor generated water for complete info.
