Water in the air lines
by Joe
Hey there. I work at a big dealership in the service department. There are about 15 techs that use air tools.
Through out the day we may get the occasional mist of moisture from our air tools. no big deal.
But in the morning I have made it a routine to "empty the water" from my airlines. after the weekends i can get a stream of water for a second or two and then a very big spray of water from my lines. almost like a pressure washer.
We have had people come out and install driers of some sort to our air system. They didn't work. Then one guy installed an auto... air spraying thing. Im not sure what it is. it just sprays air every 45 minutes. But we still get water in the air lines. I have no idea how big our compressors are or anything about our airline set up.
All I know is that our compressors are in the basement, and the air lines run from the basement, over the service drive tunnel into the mainshop where we work. our shop if completely seperate from the dealer. could that long of a distance cause moisture to build up?? expecialy over night?
Bill says...Hello Joe, and thanks for writing in.
Where is your water coming from? If you want the answer to that, then visit this page about
sources of water in your air lines. Just follow the links from that page, and you'll have a much better understanding about why you have water, and what you can do about it.
And yes, as your compressed air travels over long distances to get to your tools, condensation does occur. You need to get the water out at the tool end, not just the compressor end.
Cheers,
Bill
