VT631505AJ compressor knocking loudly after pressure builds

Husky pro , Campbell Hausfeld model VT631505AJ (AGM05

When the compressor first starts without any pressure it runs normal(fairly quiet), as it builds pressure it starts knocking loudly. the pressure leaks down even if the regulator is backed of all of the way.

the compressor is around two years old and not used much, there is plenty of oil in sight glass. the manual mention that the check valve may cause noise. thought this compressor would last longer than this. any help would be appreciated.
thank you,
Scott

I replaced the check valve and did not see any change.
When the compressor starts it runs quiet, when it gets to about 50-60 lbs it starts knocking and gets louder the higher the pressure gets.
Going to check the flywheel tomorrow then dive in to check the internals after that.
Will post my findings

Check the bolt and key way on the Flywheel, check
the belt tension, and motor pulley, make sure the
compressor unit is level and not on the shipping
skid.

Hmm.

How much pressure we talking about when it gets noisy?

Anyway, if you shut it off after it starts knocking, does it hold pressure?

If not, listen for leaks. You might have a bad check valve.
