Very little air pressure at outlet but pump is working.

I have an ancient Speedaire compressor model 17-57, pump model A-9(most of the model numbers are rubbed off. I suspect I need the pump rebuilt or perhaps a new one. I can't find any parts for it. I think the serial number on the electric motor is L-6690. It is belt driven, 1 HP motor and it runs but very little pump pressure. I appreicate any help you could offer. Thanks, Robin. robinbrhodes@earthlink.net.

Robin, there could be a number of reasons why. The ones I know of are linked from the Troubleshooting page, "why compressors won't build pressure".

It may be a gasket issue, it may be an intake valve problem, check valve problem or other.

Have a look at the details page on why compressors won't build pressure and see if anything there makes sense for yours.

Cheers,

Bill
