venting a Speedaire 1VN93 for exhaust and gasoline fumes

We have a current customer that has requested that we install the 1VN93 in the back of their cargo van. They would like to have us exhaust the unit for CO thru the floor of the vehicle. Also, they would like us to have the unit accept fuel directly from the van's fuel tap port via an external fuel pump. Is this recommended? Will this void any of the warranty of the compressor during any modification? What parts would be required to make this application work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff, I have no idea what DOT regulations come into play when attempting a compressor installation like this, and I would, if it were me, make sure that the work I performed as to the exhaust and fuel met whatever standards they require.

The fuel source for the air compressor is a gravity feed tank. I'm not quite sure how you would go from the fuel pump on the vehicle into the fuel supply for the compressor.

In terms of exhausting the CO from the muffle, the way I see it is that as long as the exhaust pipe from the outflow from the compressor doesn't create back pressure, then I don't see why that wouldn't work.

You will have to check with the manufacturer regarding their warranty issues. My feeling is that the work you plan might void a warranty. Check with Grainger.

Other opinions invited and welcome...

Cheers,

Bill

Fuel from van gas tank

If you can tap in to the gas tank and use a low pressure fuel pump 4-6 psi you could reg up a needle and seat fuel bowl from an unused carb. I would use a pressure regulator that has a return line back to the tank this will help keep the pump cool as I doubt that this engine will use much gas.

Just don't use the vans high pressure fuel pump as it is probably 60-80 psi and would over power the carb needle and seat.
