Variable speed compressors

Variable speed is an option that is available for the compressors from some manufacturers.

The variable speed option will allow the compressor speed - and the energy consumption of that compressor - to fluctuate, as the demand for compressed air fluctuates in the shop.

As the air demand in the plant goes up, the compressor speed increases, outputting the necessary CFM to meet that demand. Energy costs rise, but so too does the available compressed air to do the work necessary.

As the compressed air demand in your shop decreases, the variable speed compressor will 'slow down' – generating the lower demand for compressed air, and using less energy in the process.

As energy costs soar, and if your plant demand fluctuates, variable speed is a worthwhile option to consider.
