using GFCI outlet

When I plug in my sears 1hp, 2gallon compressor into the GFCI in the garage it will sometimes not turn the motor over to start running. It just Chugs, I unplug it and turn it off, once I do that it starts. Should I not be using the GFCI, thats all I have in the garage

Gary, as far as I know, a ground fault interrupter will trip off the power in milliseconds if the power flow downstream of the GFI plug goes to ground.

So, I doubt the problem is the interrupter, I think the problem might have to do with low power flowing from the switch. Anything else using the same circuit as this plug in the garage.

It could also be something else... so, try this. Unplug the compressor, and drain all the air from the tank. Close the drain and plug the compressor back in. Does it start OK? Post a comment here with a response, if you would.

Cheers,

Bill
