If you visit the sitemap page and look under troubleshooting there is a page of tips about why air compressors run but do not build pressure.

However, with the plastic issue in the vane, first question is where did it come from, and the second is... how much was the vane damaged?

Warped metal from the heat? Also, I would expect that you would have to replace any gaskets inside the compressor pump as a gasket may have deteriorated from the heat too, and a leaky gasket is often the cause of a compressor running but not building pressure.

How do I turn the pressure up on my 5hp shop compressor?

by Lars
(Vernon Bc)

How do I turn the pressure up on my 5hp shop compressor. It used to charge up to 110-120 now it just wants to stop at 80 and not go any higher. It is a wiseworth canada challenge air
________________
Hello Lars... Challenge Air is the brand of air compressor your have, and Wiseworth is your supplier, is that right?

So if I understand correctly, your air compressor runs OK, but the air pressure in your tank reaches around 80 PSI, and even though the air compressor continues to run, the pressure in the tank won't go higher?

You cannot turn this pressure up, Lars. What you have is / are mechanical issue(s) with your compressor.

That may be intake valve problems, pressure valve problems, internal gasket problems, and so on.

On the site map page under troubleshooting is a link to a page about why air compressors run but don't build pressure. Have a look at that if you would, and if you have a specific question after reading that info, do post it here as a comment.

Cheers,

Bill

Compressor keeps running

by Tim
(New york)

Air compressor keeps running and builds pressure but will not shut off i replaced cut off switch did not fix and it does not reach enough pressure for the blow off valve to operate.any info would help
_______________
Tim, if your air compressor is running and the pressure never reaches the normal cut out pressure setting then you likely have a mechanical problem with the air compressor.

See the troubleshooting section on the site map page for links.

If, however, the pressure in the tank rises past the normal cut out pressure and the compressor keeps running, then that is indicative of a failed pressure switch.

From your post I am guessing that your compressor problem is that the pressure in the tank never reaches the normal cut out, and that points to a mechanical issue as noted above.

Cheers,

Bill

I suggest you visit the Troubleshooting section on the sitemap page, follow the links that relate to compressors that run but don't build pressure, do some of the checks referred to there, and then, add a comment here with findings, including the compressor make and model.
