So, Steve, the compressor starts OK, runs for 10 seconds, and pops the breaker?

Or, it tries to start for about 10 seconds, and then pops the breaker.

The difference can be noted by the increase in air pressure in the tank before the breaker pops.

If the pressure is rising, even if only slightly, that suggests that the pump is working, and I'd look to the motor circuit, in particular, the start / run capacitor.

If the pump isn't pumping, maybe it's seizing, and it's overloading the compressor motor, causing it to pull too many amps and pop the breaker.

Regardless, make sure first that you are not using an extension cord, and that the power supply to the compressor plug is clean, with no other appliances running on the same circuit at the same time.
