Inlet valve?
by: Carl

Try fitting a service kit on the inlet valve, these sometimes get "lazy" the hot oil vapourises and when it goes offload the inlet valve closes slower than normal, oil passes back through it and smoke appears through the air intake element.
Get your inlet valve serviced then you should be ok

Oil blowing inside/outside GA30FF compressor

by Ed Orazen
(Greenville OH)

I have a GA30FF that has an oil leak somewhere. It intermittently blows oil into the compressor housing which then gets blown to the top of the housing by the fan. A tech thought we had a leak in the Oil Cooler but pressure test was 100% good. Could safety valve be blowing this? Thanks!! Ed Orazen

Separator
by: Carl

It could be the safety valve yes, have you tried running it with the cover off and watching the safety valve? Is most of the oil around the safety valve? Clean up as much of the oil as you can from the inside, top up the oil and observe where the oil is coming from?
If it is the safety valve then you need to replace the separator element.

GA 30+ compressor not unloading

by Ali
(Pakistan)

I am using atlas copco GA 30+ compressor.

I am having problem with my loading/unloading valve, it is not working. The compressor stays on load as soon as it starts.

I have replaced the whole assembly including the blow off valve but it still doesn't work.

i have checked the control signal on the solenoid it is working fine on manual and auto load/unload conditions but the compressor continuously stays o
loaded as soon as it starts

Regards

Thanks for you help and response carl... Its working now.... I opened the solenoid valve and its was bocked... There is a small pinhole in it which was blocked due to dust.... Regards

Also, just to check, is there still voltage on the solenoid when the pressure gets to where it is supposed to off load? If there is, then it is the controller at fault

Unloading
by: Ali Waqas

Yes it starts normally converts star-delta. Then it shows auto loaded and loading valve operates and pressure starts building... I have set the value to unloading to 7 bar. When it reaches 7 bar display shows auto unloaded. The signal to the solenoid is cutt off and blowoff valves blows out the air as normal... But the pressure keeps rising and ultimately when reaches to 10 bar the saftey vavle blows up and it shuts down the compressor.. Although it just happened only one time now i press the emergency stop when pressure exceeds 7 bar....
The solenoid is blowing off properly, is there any need to replace that because i havent changed it till now... I have to order one.?
Regards

Confirmation
by: Carl

Hi, just to answer your question, no there is no link between the MPV (Minimum pressure valve) and the loading valve. The MPV is seperate, it is purely air controlled, it opens at around 2-4 bar and also stops air from returning into the separator tank.

Just to confirm your problem though, you start your compressor, it goes through the star/delta sequence, it then goes "on-load" but doesn't unload?

Does it go over pressure and blow the safely valve on the separator?

Does it shutdown with a fault?

signal
by: Ali Waqas

thanks for you response carl... by the signal i mean the control signal from the controller... yes it is working fine... it is powering up the solenoid at the unloading pressure value.... but the air supply doesn't cut off. is there any link between loading valve and minimum pressure check valve?

Signal?
by: Carl

When you say that you have checked the signal, what do you mean? If you have replaced the whole unloader valve like you say, then there can really one be one place to look... The controller. The signal that tells the valve to load or unload comes from the controller, it is a sealed unit so its best to get Atlas Copco to check it out, a new one is very expensive so be prepared....

Motor overload
by: Carl

Have you tried pressing the motor overload reset button? Its inside the electrical cabinet, it will be connected to a contactor and should be either a blue or red button. You may have to go through the reset procedure on the controller afterwards
