trouble shooting a model 919.152811

by Mason

will not build more than 60 psi

Mason, not a lot to go on here, buddy.

Are you saying the compressor gets to 60 PSI and stops, or are you saying the compressor gets to 60 PSI and keeps running, but the pressure doesn't go higher?

If the first, then the pressure switch is suspect.

If the second, then pop over to the troubleshooting section on the sitemap page and follow the link to the pages about why air compressors run but don't build pressure. Once you get that read, do the checks on your compressor, then post a comment here with what you found.

Cheers,

Bill

same problem
by: kenny

i have a similar problem, mine is model number 919.164450, and gets to 50 psi and stops climbing but keeps running. replaced orings and gaskets. there is a return line from the bottom tank that goes to the pressure switch that constantly blows air only when compressor is running. in the end of the line is a white plastic piece that has a spring in it. what is that part and is it working properly?

I believe you are referring to the unloader valve? See that page, and also the page on tank check valves for a likely solution to this compressor problem.

If the unloader is blowing air when the compressor is running, then it's not shutting off when the compressor starts.

If the unloader is blowing air when the compressor is stopped, that says that the tank check valve is failing.

Glad you were able to nail it down. I always suggest a new gasket kit if you are replacing the valve plate.

it sounds like motor is seized up

we have a craftman professional- 25gal compressor and when it is turned on it starts to hum, eventually it trips the breaker. Any suggestions?

It is possible that the motor has seized, but it's more likely to me that either the power feed to the compressor has been negatively affected by other items pulling power from the same line, or, the start capacitor is acting up.

Make sure you have the compressor plugged right into a socket, and not using an extension cord, and also, that nothing else is pulling power at the same time the compressor motor is trying to start.

If the power supply is OK, time to get the capacitor checked, I would say.

Bill

Craftsman Model 919.167783 at what pressure is it supposed to automatically shut off

by Mark
(Tamaqua, Pa.)

I got this unit for free.

The label states 175 psi MAX.

I am wondering at what pressure is it supposed to automatically shut off at?

I made sure there was no water in the tank, and fired it up. It ran nice and quiet and built good pressure. However, I began to panic when the pressure needle reached 150 psi, and I shut it off. Am I just being paranoid? Should I just let it run? I'm confused.

Free is a good price, and particularly, when the air compressor runs so well.

The approximate cut in prssure is 145 PSI and the approximate cut out pressure is 175 PSI, Mark.

Inside an air compressor pressure switch

I have a 919.165080 compressor. .how to adjust the air pressure????

Kenny, are you asking about adjusting the cut in and cut out pressure?

If so, see the page on pressure switches on this site. That will provide abundant info.

If that doesn't help, start a new thread, and upload, along with your question, photos of the pressure switch, outside and inside, and we'll see if we can help.

Some pressure switches are suitable for adjusting, some are not.
