Trouble Starting Up!

Hi there mate, The compressor is a JW ROSS 2.5HP UNIT. The problem im having is when i pull the power button up to start the compressor, it will spin and pump for a little while then the reset switch will trip and turn off.

when the reset switch trips there is a small spark next to what looks to be a relay?

Sometimes it will spin for 5 or 10 seconds and then stop, sometimes it will be for half a second and stop.

I have tried changing the regulator and I have also removed the water trap unit and it has not helped.

I have a youtube video here that shows exactly what it does, The little black switch im pushing is the reset switch, and the red switch i pull up is the actual on / off button.

i try tightening various things in the video to see if it helps but it doesn't, when the compressor does finnaly start up in the video i tug on the main air line, this is just a coincidence though as ive tried this various times before.

I was thinking that it might be my motor starter capacitor, i am unable to find one locally as it is a 150uf / 250v AC capacitor.

I think you've nailed it already. It sounds as though either the starter or motor is going.

Take off the motor and get it to a motor rebuild shop for testing. They'll let you know straightaway if there is a problem.

That's my guess.
