the white wire has melted and the compressor will not run

the white wire inside the off & on switch has melted and now the compressure will not start

Brian, extending my usual caveat, I am not an electrician :-), your compressor definitely has an electrical problem.

The white wire is the return. That it has melted suggests to me that you have a short to ground in your switch. Didn't the fuse or breaker pop?

Regardless, if you aren't comfortable with working with electrical power, you need to take your compressor to a repair depot.

If you are OK with working with electricity, then drag out your multi-meter, replace the wire or switch, and start diagnosing where the short lies.
