The Right Oil Level

2 hp Campbell Air Compressor

I'm checking a Campbell Hausfeld 2hp air compressor for a friend and he doesn't have a manual to know the proper oil level.

The numbers on the name plate are VS401300 Ser# 082990L-794521

I think it has too much oil in the sump. How would I know?

Thanks
Ken

Ken, when you pull the oil fill bolt or cover, is there no dipstick? In the absence of a site glass, normally there is one in the fill tube.

And I'm curious as to the symptoms that convince you that there is too much oil?

Cheers,

Bill

Air Compressor Oil Level
by: Ken Morgan

Bill - There is no sight glass, no dip stick, just a pipe plug in the fill port. When I pulled the fill plug oil came gushing out of the port. My worries are the what looks to be the fill port is very low on the compressor and if filled to this level will give a low oil level in the crankcase. I'm used to very large compressors with a large oil capacity and not these toy sized compressors. Thanks for the help.

If you pull the fill plug and oil comes out, yes, it's over filled.

Small compressors don't hold much oil. Mine has just a few (6?) ounces to full level.

If you are sure the fill port is the fill port, if it were me, I'd drain the oil down to the bottom of the fill port threads... and expect that would suffice.

Wish I could be more specific.

Cheers,

Bill
