the compressor wont start automatically.

i moved the compressor this morning from one location to another. i rewired it to the panel. it wont start automatically but it run when i hold the contactor in.

Bill says...Hi Ed. If by contactor you mean the handle on the pressure switch, then you are operating the pressure switch yourself.
It is supposed to switch on the compressor when pressure is below the cut in pressure level, by itself!
Therefore, I suspect that your pressure switch low pressure cut in either isn't wired properly, or it has somehow been damaged by the moving process.
If you bypass the switch and power the motor directly, if the motor starts when you flip the breaker on, and the compressor runs normally, then it's almost certainly that switch that is the problem.
Make sure the pressure level in the tank is below cut in pressure though. If there is pressure in the tank that is higher than the cut in pressure setting of the switch, then it's not going to start automatically.
