The compressor motor starts to cut in and out and feels hot .

I HAVE A Ingersoll Rand 5 hp 80 gallon two cylinder compressor 230 volt .

I just replaced the pressure switch since the motor started to engauge and disengauge cutting in and out.

With the belt off the motor runs fine but hooked up to the compressor pump the motor starts it's fit .

This compressor is less than 3 years old an is not ran very often.

The motor has good bearings but some thing is very wrong .

Thanks JOHN

Hi John. It sounds electrical. I understand that the symptoms were the same before you replaced the pressure switch, and even after installing a new one, the same motor start/stop occurs?

~After the motor starts, how long is it before it cuts out?
~Is air pressure building in the tank while it's running?
~After it cuts out, it tries to restart automatically ~ you aren't doing anything but watching?
~How long before it tries to restart, and is the length of time the same each time?

If you hadn't told me you had replaced the pressure switch, that would have been my first thought as to the cause of your compressor problem.

Cheers,

Bill
