The compreser won't turn

by lee
(unalakleert ak. usa)

the electric motor works fine. i took the head off compressor then it turned over just fine. cylinder walls are good, bearings and crankshaft are good. I'm thinking the valves are bad. it blew a check valve of some sort between the two cylinders. (2 stage compressor)

Hey Lee. Good of you to visit this site and to write in.

Your subject says your compressor won't turn, yet you say when you take it apart, it seems to work.

I'm a bit confused. (Actually, that's normal for me, so don't worry about it. )

I also am not sure what you mean when you say you "blew a check valve". In a two state compressor, the air is compressed in one cylinder, and then sent through a check valve into the second cylinder for additional compression. The check valve is in the line to stop the already compressed air from flowing back into the first cylinder when the piston retracts. How did you "blow it"?

Check the operation of the valve to be sure that the air flow is right as the piston retracts and extends. I think you are right in your diagnosis.

See... you don't need me. :-)

Cheers,

Bill
