Tank drain valve will not close due to crud

I replaced the drain valve on my CPF6025VP PC compressor. After closing the valve, air still came out of the valve. I later removed the valve after a few uses. The valve had crud on it which may have prevented the valve from closing. Is there a way to clean the inside of the tank? Thanks!

You can clean it, but it's a pain to do safely.

But, what kind of valve do you have?
