switching ON and OFF the compressor by sensing temperature

I am using a 2 ton split Air Conditioner having rotary compressor please let me know the duty cycle, if i run my a c continously for 24 hrs will the life of compressor is reduced. what is the normal life of a rotary compressor. How many ON and OFF in One hour is harmless to compressor. is ON and OFF is harmful to compressor even if minimu 3 min delay is given to ON the compresor after every ON time.
