Rick, if the compressor keeps running past the normal cut out pressure level, eventually the PRV is going to let go... at least I hope it does.

Before you use this compressor again, my strong advice is to replace the pressure switch, and it is the pressure switch that controls the compressor on / off, and if it is not shutting off at the normal cut out pressure level, odds are very good the switch is pooched.
