stops @ 80 psi

I have a Sanborn 89B200 given to me and @ 80 psi the safety value starts to leak air but the motor continues to run...any clues?

Bill wonders...

Hi Maestro. Thanks for writing in.

If the compressor hasn't reached cut out pressure level - the pressure at which the compressor motor would stop - and your PRV is leaking, then you need a new PRV.

The PRV is designed to blow off when the pressure in the compressor system is approaching a level that compromises the safety. It's not supposed to leak at lower pressures.

Does your compressor continue to run until cut out, or does the bleed from the PRV prevent the pressure in the tank from reaching the cut out level?

It sounds like the PRV. Odd, they don't usually fail.

Cheers,

Bill
