Startup Pressure

I just purchased a 80gal Single Phase compressor from lowes. Unit was wired per manufactureres specs, filled with oil and ran for 1 hour to seat in the rings, pistons etc. After 1 hour I closed the ball valve to allow the unit to build pressure to 140 psi. After reaching 25-30 psi the motor slows down and hums. The compressor begins to die, and i see inside the motor a plastic device and hear a click as the unit seems to recover. At 30 psi, the unit will not build any further pressure and I am afraid of throwing the 40 amp breaker. The unit only has 6 feet of 10 ga wire. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your compressor must be under warranty if you just purchased it.

Contact the store and ask them were you need to take it for warranty work.

The motor is lugging because the motor if failing, the mechanical pump is failing, or there is a restriction preventing compressed air from getting into the tank, and that back pressure is increasing the load on the motor to the point it can't work.

Your purchase price paid for a warranty. You may as well take advantage of it.

Good luck,

Bill
