Starts up in cold (30F or below), builds pressure and motor won't turn over again..

I start my compressor in cold weather. The compressor runs well until a build up of the pressure. After the build up it shuts down. I try restarting and the motor or piston will move a couple revelations and then dies down like an old mule. It then trips the reset button each time, when I try to restart it. If I leave it off for a while it will start back up. I will lose pressure however by using it in between these intervals. I was under the impression that if I lost pressure it will automatically restart engine to produce more air/pressure? It's not doing this however. Mind you I am outside in the cold. It is brand new maybe been turned on a whole 10 mins or so in past.

check valve

Your check valve is probably sticking in the cold.

Try cleaning it. If that doesn't work, replace.

If it's still under warranty, you might want to take it back for another. Or different.
