Start up Issue On A Sanborn Compressor

Hi I have a Sanborn air compressor I bought new about 30 years ago. It has developed a start up problem.

A few years ago it started having this issue only occasionally/ Now it is every time.

It seems to not have enough power to start up, unless it is in a certain position. Almost like if the piston is coming up on compression.

If I turn it over by hand, I can get it to take off when I re energize it. Sometimes this process can take a few tries.

Could it be the belt is not tight enough, weak electric motor or the compressor it self?

Issue On A Sanborn Compressor

If your unloader valve is working when the air compressor reaches cut out pressure setting, then I would suggest you look at the capacitors on the motor. It could be that they are failing.

See the page on this site about how to do that.
