sputtering Motor

I have a 7.5 HP Sppedaire Model: 5Z639A 1 Phase

It starts fine but after about 10 seconds it begins to sputter

I have never heard an electric motor sputter, so I need you to explain what this terms means to you a bit better as a comment here.

Are you sure the noise you are hearing is coming from the motor?
