speedaire keeps blowing fuse

I have a 2HP Speedaire compressor that keeps blowing the fuse when the compressor trying to restart. The specss on the motor are 115V/230V, FLA:22/11.

The motor consumes 13 amp when tank has no pressure. It keeps increasing when the pressure builds up in the tank. It reaches 17 amp when thank has about 85PSI. It can reach 120PSI and shutoff automatically most of the time.

I understand the motor consume most of the current trying to start while there is pressure in the tank. The previous told me it did ran find with 110V few years ago.

My question are:
1. Is it possible the motor gets old so it consume more current now?
2. The spec says FLA is 22 amp under 115V. Does it mean the motor is working as designed?

Regarding #1, yes.

Regarding #2. I don't know.

At what pressure level in the tank is the motor trying to restart and blowing the fuse? At the cut in pressure?

Always check and see, when the compressor reaches cut out pressure level and the motor stops, that the unloader valve dumps the air over the piston.

See the unloader valve page for details if you aren't sure about what they do or where they are.

Cheers,

Bill
