Speedaire compressor(gas engine) 4b220a bawgs down and stalls .

This only happens under load while building air pressure in the tank. the remote throttle control works great, the rpm increases when load is applied. It idles fine and will run forever with no load. I have rebuilt the carburetor, flushed the tank/replaced the fuel. I have disassembled, cleaned and inspected the unloader valve, it seems to be working good. It still bawgs down (slowly) as it builds air pressure and eventually stalls.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Rohan

Rohan, your unit is bogging down and stalling because the load the motor is experiencing is outstripping the power it can deliver.

You either have an issue with the pump, or more likely, as the load is increasing the throttle is not responding and your motors RPM isn't increasing to handle that load.

Your pressure switch / sensor is supposed to interlock with, and increase or decrease the motor RPM, depending on the pressure in the system.

Any motor that is loaded beyond it's capability (whether electric or gas) will stall.

Maybe a reader with experience with gasoline powered compressors can contribute and try to help Rohan?

Cheers,

Bill

Gas Powered Compressors

The throttle down cable can be the reason for the compressor stalling under a load. There also could be trash where the cable attached to the check valve. Make sure your compressor has no issues and that your gas motor is up to par, before hand. These cables operate off air and when the pressure is high, the unit will idle, but when the unit is low in air the cable assembly throttles the unit up to accomendate the load. FYI
