Motor works fine
by: Doug in s.d.ca

I'm not so sure about that.

If it has been working ok and you haven't changed anything in the power supply, you may have a failing motor capacitor.

Check that and get back to us.

If you are uncomfortable with the capacitor check, find a motor or compressor shop and ask them to do it for you.

Speedaire 3Z423C Struggles and stops on restart

Hello Bill, I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. I have a Speedaire 3Z423C. It powers up and runs great. It fills to the max PSI with no problem and will turn off.

But if there is any pressure on the tank, it will try to restart but the pump moves slowly until the reset trips. The same is true if I fill it to 30 PSI and turn it off myself. To fill it back up, I can simply depressurize the tank and turn it back on and it will fill right back up.

I suspected it was the (old) motor and was about to buy a new one, but wanted to see if I was off base before dropping a couple hundred dollars on a guess. Please let me know if I can provide any more details and I greatly appreciate the input / advice!

Many Thanks,
Clifton

Hi Clifton: See the troubleshooting page about the unloader valve, and the unloader valve page to be sure you know what it is and what it does. Check yours. Does it work? I suspect it may not.

If it does, then I would surmise you have a start capacitor issue, assuming nothing has changed in the power supply to the compressor since it worked properly.

Cheers,

Bill

Speedaire 4B236C motor drops out on overload

by Barry Medley

Speedaire model 4B236C runs on start up until about 90 psi then the thermal overload drops out. Any ideas ?

If it's going out on thermal, Barry, then obviously the motor is overheating, which could be caused by many things.

One of things I would check first would be the run capacitor, and you may as well check the start capacitor too.

See the how to check capacitors page on this site. When you check the caps, if they are fine, post a comment here with that info, and we'll press on with figuring out why your motor is overheating, though it could be as simple as the motor itself (I said simple, not cheap!) wearing out.
