Speedaire 5F225 - how to determine a Micro-Farad.

by Bill Dickerson
(Memphis)

I need a stater capacitor for this unit and I have no old one to reference.

This is a 1 hp 3450 rpm 115/230 volt 17.8/8.0 FLA

I can find some online but I have idea how to determine a Micro-Farad.

I have a wild guess that it should be about 30 MF's

Can you advise?

_______________

Bill says....

Nope. But I expect someone can. How about it folks. Can you help out Bill?

Cheers,

Bill

It depends on if you have one cap or two on the motor. If you have only one cap, it should be a black plastic case in the range of 300 to 500 mfd @ 250 to 330 volts for starting. If you have two caps on it, one is for starting and one for running, the start is usually a plastic case, in the range of 300 to 500 and the run will be a metal case and from 20 to 40 mfd @ 250 to 330 volts. Hope this gives you an idea of what you need.
