Speedaire 3Z180 is putting a lot of oil into the tank.

It has gotten much worse since I put a 7.5 hp 1725 rpm motor on it with an 8" pulley.

It had a 2 hp motor on it before with a 4" pulley.

With the smaller motor, I had to add oil once a year, now it's once a month.

Are they worth rebuilding? I can buy a complete used unit (tank, comp, and motor) for $500.

I would think that you need new piston rings.

Whether or not you repair or replace will depend, I expect, on your skill set, the ability to find and the price of the piston seals, and whether you want to spend the time tearing the compressor down.

If you do, I would suggest that you replace the valves as well.

I do not know how increasing the RPM and the HP of the motor affected the ring wear, though I suspect it was a factor.
