Speedaire 80 gallon model 1Z218 won't build pressure and blowing oil

by Glenn Caputo
(Lehighton, pa USA)

The compressor gets to 40 psi and air starts blowing out through an opening in the front of the compressor.

Hello Glenn, and thanks so much for visiting this website and writing in.

I've move your question to the "Compressor will not build pressure page".

Perhaps, if you have a moment, you could read the questions and responses at the bottom of this page? I think you'll find out why, from reading the entries, why your compressor is acting the way it is.

Or, go to the Speedaire page linked from the Nav bar, and find your local Speedaire location for professional response.

Cheers,

Bill

Older Speedaire / Dayton compressor - what size motor?

by richard weber
(rweber1@fuse.net)

it has a tag on it but no information on the tag, it is a 3 cylinder compressor. what i need to know is how big of a motor i need. the tank is a 6o gallon.

Bill replies...

Hello Richard. Thanks for visiting and for writing in.

A 60 gallon vertical or horizontal air tank is a good size for a compressor, leading me to believe that you might be looking at a 5HP unit, and that will mean 220 VAC power, but I can't be sure. I'm just guessing.

All I can suggest is that you send in another inquiry, but this time, with a photo of the compressor. Perhaps then some of our very knowledgeable readers will be able to comment.

There's no way to tell for sure without seeing it, and even then, not knowing the cylinder size, the gearing, the drive mechanism etc. makes this a tough call.

Check the Repairs page and see if there's a shop near you that you might contact.

And also check the Speedaire page (also linked from Nav bar) to find your closest Speedaire location to see if they can shed some light on it for you.

Good luck.

Bill

Old speedaire model 1Z944b

by Ed Rogers
(Youngstown, NY)

I recently purchase an old speedaire model 1Z944b. On top of the cylinder heads there is a filter media that I need to replace. Can you tell what it is and where I can perhaps get it? Also, is there a manual available for this compressor? Thanks..

Bill answers...

Hi Ed.

Thanks for writing in.

The best folks to ask for that info is the Speedaire techs.

Go to the Nav bar, click on the Speedaire link, and follow the guides to find your closest Grainger / Speedaire location. Check with them. They should be able to help you out.

Cheers,

Bill
