Speed Air 7.5 HP compressor won't shut off when it hits 90 PSI
by MFD

The air filter which is attached to the right cylinder fell off (apparently the screw attachment melted off).
There is also a trace of smoke emitting from the compressor, which i suspect is burnt oil.

Bill says...Well MFD, it sounds to me like you've got a valve or gasket failure, the tank pressure then can't get past 90 PSI, and your compressor has run for so long that it is badly overheated, and there may be damage as a result.
Since the "normal" cut out pressure range is in the area of 130-150 PSI, that your compressor can't get to that pressure level means that the pressure switch won't shut it off.
Solve the gasket or valve issue first, and best before you run the compressor again.
Cheers,
Bill
