Snap-On 240v Compressor Slow motor and sometimes dies

Hi Bill,

What would my problem be here please ?

My 240v Snap-On compressor seems to be a little slow. The pressure dropped to maybe 6bar, then the motor fired up, spun for a little while ( it sounded like it was dying ) then stopped.

I emptied the receiver of all its air, then tried it again and it filled the 300lt reciever to 10bar and shut off as it should with no stops. Albeit I thought was a little slow.

I have the compressor plugged in through a 10 meter extension reel.

Any ideas please :)

Paul

Paul, was it running OK with the extension cord before, or is the cord new? Under powering your air compressor by feeding it with a too light gauge could cause the symptoms you describe.

If the extension cord had been used all along then it sounds like your motor is struggling to put air into the receiver against the building back pressure.

That could signal a run capacitor problem... or,

likely it isn't the check valve going into the tank, but that's a cheaper check than taking your motor in for a motor and capacitor load test which would be my next stop if it were my air compressor with these problems.

Cheers,

Bill
