snap on compressor cylinder head leak

my 5 hp 30 gallon snap on compressor sounds like it has a head gasket leak it is pushing air back through the air filter. it actually melted the housing for the air filter

______________
Yes, if air is flowing back out of the intake air filter, then it is likely you need a valve replacement and, it were me, a gasket replacement too.

That the compressed air temperature is melting the filter housing suggests that it's running far too long at one time, and you may be damaging other compressor parts too, as all need a cool down period. See the page on duty cycle for more info on that.

If you want help from folks to find parts, add a comment here with your model number and what you are looking for.

Cheers,

Bill

Compressor now fixed
by: Denton

My compressor is now fixed I have been in the automotive business for many years and I finally got someone on the phone that would listen to what my descriptions of the.problems were. First thing he said to me is what would it be if it was a car? I told him a blown head gasket. He told me I was probably right but it may also need Reed valves and told me a general repair procedure. I replaced the top gasket on the compressor with a gasket I made from a sheet of paper gasket and it is running like a.champ

I do not see a model or serial # on the compressor. On the tank itself there is a plate attached with the specifics of when the tank was tested(2007). However there is a plate bolted to the front of the compressor with *CHINOOK TO-ITALY 30400830* on it also on the lower section of the compressor *BLOCK* if you will there is *K22-K28 33104600(OR 4800) Made in Italy*
