Size a sandblaster compressor for deep sandblasting/carving glass

by pippa d'arcy

I am wishing to purchase a sandblaster for deep sandblasting/carving glass but I am unsure as to what size compressor I require for this. Can you help please?

Bill says...

Sure. Ask the sandblaster supplier what flow and what pressure their system requires at a minimum operating level.

If you are only using the compressor for this purpose, increase the compressor capacity over demand by about 10%, and you should be OK.

You can expect to get about 4 CFM of compressed air at 90 PSI for each HP of compressor motor size. In sizing your compressor for your application, if the sandblast equipment requires, for example, 14 CFM @ 60 PSI to perform, I would divide the 14 CFM by 4, and that would give me the HP size of the compressor motor I needed, with capacity to spare.

Cheers,

Bill
