Senco PC2001 Air Compressor Check Valve?

I have a Senco PC2001 air compressor with the following problem;

I turn the compressor on, it starts to get pressurized, reached its shut off pressure (125 psi) and the motor shuts off.

Immediately air is released from a brass fitting which is part of the pressure control switch.

As the pressure decreases to the "turn on" pressure of 95 psi, the motor tries to turn on, but can't. And then the breaker switch turns off.

One of your site's previous answers talks about the check valve may be dirty, etc. So I take the chacl valve apart and the rubber piece slides freely in the housing. I lube it with some WD40 and place it back in the check valve housing and connect everything up again.

Start up the compressor and the same thing happens. What is going on?

BTW, I have replaced the pressure control switch and that did not solve anything.

Hi Jim.

When the compressor reaches cut out pressure, the pressure switch trips to cut off power to the motor, and at the same time, opens the valve from the piston head to atmosphere. This usually results in the short lived psssshtttt! as the air unloads.

If air continues to bleed out the unloader valve after that initial, one half second or so psssshtttt, then your check valve is leaking.

I don't spray WD40 on rubber parts as I understand that the liquid causes some rubber to expand.

Regardless, your check valve is leaking or not working right, and I don't think the air over the piston is being vented correctly, and this may be lading to a motor overload on start up, hence the breakers popping.

Cheers,

Bill
