Sears compressor motor slows down and eventually stops.

Hi Bill. I have a Sears 6.5hp, 60 gal compressor. The motor slows to a crawl after a very short period of time and eventually stops, it never gets above 15-30 psi before this happens. If I remove the air tank supply line that runs to the tank itself the compressor works fine and runs at a high rpm. The moment I replace the line it slows again. I thought it was the check valve going into the tank so I took that out of the equation as well by detaching it from the end of the tank supply line and it still slows. The obvious thought was that there was something obstructing the tank supply line between the compressor cylinder and the tank check valve but it is clear as well. So it appears that the very slight back pressure of the tank supply line is enough to slow the motor and then when it is attached to the valve and into the tank, the motor cannot overcome the additional pressure which causes it to shut down.

Could that be the case?

Willy, see the age on checking your motor capacitors on this site.

This were my compressor that's what I would check next.
