Sanborn 60 gallon air compressor

Sanborn Black Max compressor pops off (releases air through pressure relief at about 60 lbs). Someone has told me that it might be the regulator - is that the case?

As a comment here, please advise what the model number is, what the normal cut in pressure is, what the normal cut out pressure is.

If the cut in and cut out pressures are typically higher than the pressure at which the PRV lets go, then I would suspect that it is the PRV itself that has failed.

Sometimes this may happen as, inadvertently, some sort of lubricant gets into the PRV, making the parts move more easily, and effectively lowering the release pressure.

Cheers,

Bill

The Check valve needs replacing. It is in the top of the tank where the main tube from the compressor joins tank.
