I have a Sanborn air compressor Model B109B300-22. it reaches 20 psi and will not make more pressure. electric motor continues to try to pump but cannot because belt will not turn.

I have removed belt and electric motor whizzes along happily. Put belt back on and pump stops motor at 20 psi. I do not know much about compressors and wanted to know what you thought might be problem?

Rex, try taking the line from the top of the pump to the tank off at one end. Run the compressor again. Any change?

It sounds as though the back pressure created by 20 PSI in the tank may be interfering with the check valve, and that's blocking ingress of more air to the tank, and that's overloading the motor.

Too, just because the motor runs without load, doesn't mean that the motor is not failing. If the pump is fine, and the check valve is OK, then it may be that the motor is worn to the point that it cannot overcome the 20 PSI back pressure.

Keep us posted, and thanks for the photos.
