running slow and fast

by ken
(geneva, il. usa)

Compressor starts fine until 50 PSI. then slows down quit a bit and speeds back up, back and forth until cut off at 135 PSI.

Last Winter, the belt broke, and the compressor ran for 2-3 days before i found it.

Oil was just changed and pump runs good. it must be something with the motor.

Just wondering what is going on.

Hi Ken. Welcome!

The compressor ran for three days until you found what? That the belt was broken? So the motor ran for three days without compressing any air.

Might be a duty cycle issue damaging your motor, but before I took it in to be checked, I think I'd pull the check valve going into the tank and make sure that it's not obstructed in some way.

That's a bit of a reach that it might be the check valve, but that's cheap to check.

Otherwise, I suspect your motor or drive train has a problem.

Cheers & good luck,

Bill
