Bostitch pancake compressor safe to use on an air chisel?

I just got an air chisel to remove the plaster and cement layer from the cement block wall in my basement, so I can apply some concrete seal. When I use the air chisel, it uses so much air, the compressor won't shut off.

Is this safe, or will I burn out the motor?
How long can you run the compressor continually without doing damage to it ? An ounce of prevention...

Running Bostich pancake compressor too long?

The Bostich owners manual for my 6 gallon pancake compressor says that the motor should not run more than 30-45 minutes out of every hour.

Bostitch run too long?

You are wise to be concerned, David.

All air compressors have a duty cycle which is, essentially, how long the air compressor can run before it overheats and damages.

Many compressor motors have a thermo switch to shut the motor down if it starts to get too hot, but you need to be concerned before that happens if you are using the Bostitch pancake compressor to supply air to a high demand air tool.

See the page on Duty Cycle on this site for details.
