replacing an air compressor tank with a portable air tank

Tha tank on my Nikota 5 gallon twin tank air compressor in leaking.

Could I replace this tank with a portable air tank? They seem fairly cheap, but the ones I found have a hose with a schrader valve for filling up at gas stations, etc.

A tank that's rated for compressed air is a tank that's rated for compressed air. So yes, you can use a portable tank as a replacement for your compressor tank, as long as the pressure rating is the same.

You will need to change the plumbing on your compressor to send the air from the compressor head into the new tank, through a check valve, and replumb the portable tank with the same discharge setup as your present compressor.

It's not insurmountable, but quite a task you've set out for yourself.

Make a list of all the things you need and price them out. You may find it a whole lot easier and maybe not so high a cost to buy the proper tank?

Cheers and good luck,

Bill
