Replacing a damaged piston.

I recently received a speedair model #4B233C that has a damaged piston. I am wondering if it is easy to replace the piston or purchase a new pump? I am mechanicaly inclined but have never replaced a piston on anything. Are there special tools needed? Do you just pull the old one and put the new one in and your done? Does the cylinder need to be replaced, bored out or anything. The piston was damaged from lack of oil. Thank-you.

Bill says...Hello Mark.
If the unit ran out of oil and seized after overheating, my feeling is that you will put more money into it in parts than the unit was worth new, not to mention your time.
See the Speedaire page for help in finding your nearest dealer, and contact them to see if parts are even available.
Is it hard to do? If you have never done it then yes, it will be difficult. Once you have taken one apart for the first time, the second becomes easier and so on.
Why not take yours apart just for fun if you want and see how complex it is?
Chances are that the piston has scored the cylinder and you are into a significant cost for parts if you choose to rebuild it.
Cheers,
Bill
