Replacement air filter

by Kevin L.
(Clio, Ca)

Bill, I have a Speed Aire Model 2z 498 b. I'm looking for a replacement air filter that goes on top of the head, It's a small fabric piece about 1" square. I went to Grainger and they were unable to locate one for me. Any other resources or suggestions. Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin... what I would do is take the filter with me to the auto parts store and find an auto filter that has similar media. Buy that filter and cut it to suit.

Cannot get any information on a Speedaire model 3Z423E?

Cannot get any information on a Speedaire model 3Z423E from Speedaire website

The model does not show up on there site at all even though their name is all over the compressor. Need to know where I can get parts. As we have several here at the jobsite.

You don't indicate where in the world you are, so it is a bit difficult being specific.

I too have been unable to get specifics about your air compressor. How old is it, anyway?

I suggest you either go to your Grainger store, or call the local Grainger outlet, and ask them where they take their air compressors for warranty repair. Talk to those folks about your Speedaire compressor parts needs.

Or, contact your local compressor outlets, all of them, and ask the same question. You need to get to a repair depot that knows compressors and can determine from seeing yours if parts for it are available.

Older Speedaire 3 phase 5 hp 80 Gallon - trips reset button?

by Matt Clements
(Mastic Beach, NY)

I know very little about my machine, but here's what's happening: I have a 3 phase converter hooked up from the panel, from there is goes into the box for the compressor which has 3 wires going in.

Everything starts up great, the light on the convertor goes off in 3 seconds, compressor kicks on, and it runs from 2-3 minutes. It builds up to about 55 psi then cuts out, but it does NOT cut out from the pressure, rather the reset trip button inside the compressor panel. In other words, the harder it runs, the quicker it trips.

There is a small plastic dial on the reset button that when I turn it all the way up, it runs longer, down, shorter.

If I keep hitting the reset button after it cools for a minute or so, I can get it to run another minute.

After several cycles of this, I got it up to 100 psi, then gave up. There is some sort of draw that is kicking that reset.

Do I have a bad reset button? The motor does get warm-hot but nothing crazy. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
