Quincy 325 air leaks after system unloads

by Robert
(Perry, MI, USA)

Quincy 325, the compressor pumps up good, when the system shuts down and the unloader opens air will leak from the intake value until the tank is empty.

I am thinking it could be the exhaust valve letting air flow back from the tank.

I know that there is no check valve in the tank and that the exhaust valve acts like a check valve.

"I know that there is no check valve in the tank and that the exhaust valve acts like a check valve."

Yes, and apparently it's not working. Unless you want to try running some lube or something through it, you'll have to disassemble to fix, AFAIK.

It's said that Quincy is good about helping out with these, so you might want to contact them.

Good luck and let us know how you make out with it, please.

325 5hp 2 cyl Quincy has Air leak.

by Helmuth Slisarenko
(Arkell, Ontario)

Inherited 325 5hp 2 cyl Quincy.

Has been sitting unused for 15 years.

Rotated flywheel manually - easy.

Changed oil, fired it up, runs quiet, builds pressure to about 80 PSI then starts to leak pressurized air from valve on top of cylinder head while running.

If I shut down electrical, leaking stops and holds pressure.

Suggestions? P.S. I am an automotive Technician (retired) but have never had to do any air compressor repairs before.

I'm guessing it's the prv, but not certain. It's supposed to be set to 100PSI (if used), so not sure.

If the air is from that, then your second stage is not working, probably.

There are drawings and at least one video of a tear down that might help you figure it out.

Have fun.
