Quick Coupler / Connector Question

Why are there so many different size quick connectors or couplers?

Does it matter which size I choose for various shop tools (eg. orbital sanders, nail guns)?

Quick coupler / connector question

Why are there so many different sizes in quick connectors and couplers?

Simple. There are many different companies and countries manufacturing them, and attempts over the years to introduce widely accepted standards have not been successful.

When you are purchasing your connectors and couplers, make sure they match. If you are buying them from an industrial distributor, the sales desk people should ensure that is the case.

If you are purchasing them from a hardware store, the clerks there may not "speak pneumatics". It's up to you then to read the card or package of the connector or coupler and identify the mating brand.

In terms of your air tools, I've found that retail hardware stuff works OK, but the coupler/connector sometimes leak a bit if you sideload it.

If you can afford to buy industrial quality, do it.

So, it doesn't matter what brand of coupler and connector you use, as long as they connect together when required.

Cheers,

Bill
